Tired of the same old cinematic crap? This column will suggest movies that you don't see advertised at every mainstream video store in town. In a lot of cases these will be movies that your local Bloodblister Video might not have, doesn't know they have, or wishes they didn't have. All of them will have something special to offer, whether it be stunning cinematography, limits pushed to the very edge, an astounding performance that can't be missed, or maybe even something so disturbing that not only will you not be able to forget it, you'll feel compelled to watch it again, and again. Many of the films covered will fall into the category of independent productions (and I say independent in the true sense, not the now-common label given to multi-million dollar productions cranked out by the big studios since the enormous success of Pulp Fiction). When the corporate elite, in this case the studio system, doesn't have control, it seems that a film can be more heartfelt, more outrageous, more unique, and even more charming. The formula (something very important to a studio film) can be no formula. ![]() Archives Comments or Questions? Send Jim an E-mail ![]() |
